About this centre

Our Chelmsford Assessment Centre is located inside Summit House on Waterloo Lane. The assessment centre is easily accessible by public transport and is short walk from Chelmsford town centre. There is limited pay and display parking directly outside, including some accessible parking. The main entrance will be clearly signposted with an Assessment Centre sign.

Travelling by bus or coach

The nearest bus stop is Chelmsford Cathedral on Duke Street.

This stop is served by the following routes: 1, 3, 7, 11, 13, 14, 31, 32, 33, 36, 40, 41, 42, 45, 46, 47, 48, 51, 52, 54, 56, 71, 72, 73, 100 and 351.

From the bus stop go along Duke Street and bear left into New Street. Take 1st right into Waterloo Lane. The centre is a short distance along on the right.

Travelling by train

Chelmsford station is approximately 0.3 miles from the centre. Exit the station onto Duke Street. Go left along Duke Street towards the mini roundabout. Go straight across both mini roundabouts to stay on Duke Street. Continue along Duke Street for approximately 0.2 miles as the road bears left into New Street. Take 1st right into Waterloo Lane. The centre is a short distance along on the right.

Travelling by car

From Parkway/A1060: At the Meadows Shopping Centre roundabout, take the A1099 exit onto High Bridge Road. In 0.3 miles, at the roundabout, take the third exit onto Springfield Road (Tesco will be on your left). After 0.2 miles, turn left onto Victoria Road – you will see The Riverside Inn. Continue until you reach the police station then turn left onto New Street. Continue for 0.2 miles and then turn left onto Waterloo Lane.

Car parking

There is limited pay and display parking directly outside the centre, including some accessible parking. You can also park in the car parks along Waterloo Lane, just past the centre building.

A drop-off point is located directly outside the centre.

When you arrive

When you arrive remember to bring your identification and appointment letter with you. To enter, press ‘1’ on the intercom at the main entrance. On entry, please let the receptionist know that you have arrived for your assessment.

Other helpful information

There are 3 steps up to the centre entrance. If a ramp is required please press ‘1’ on the intercom. Request a ramp and a temporary ramp will be provided.
