About this centre

Our Hastings Assessment Centre is located in Heron House. The building is shared with Jobcentre Plus. The entrance to the assessment centre is by a side entrance of Heron House in Alexandra Road, adjacent to the staff car park.

Assessments carried out at this centre:

  • Work Capability Assessments for people claiming Universal Credit (UC) and Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Other assessments for people claiming Specialist Benefits including Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (IIDB) or Veterans UK

Travelling by bus or coach

The Anglesea Terrace bus stops in London Road are the closest stops to the Assessment Centre – these are served by a number of routes including 20, 20A, 21, 21a, 22, 22a, 22c, 24, 304, 305 and 349.

Travelling by train

St Leonards Warrior Square station, served by Southern services between Ashford and Eastbourne and by Southeastern services between Tonbridge and Hastings, is approximately 10 minutes’ walk away from the assessment centre.

Please be aware that the walk from the station to the assessment centre is uphill and fairly steep in places. From the eastbound platform, exit into Station Approach and turn right into Alexandra Road.

From the westbound platform, either cross the railway line using the footbridge and exit via the eastbound platform into Station Approach or, for step-free access, reach London Road via King’s Road.

The assessment centre is located in the same building as Hastings Job Centre on the east of London Road (A2102).

Car parking

There are no visitor parking spaces at Heron House. On-street parking is usually available on the opposite side of London Road or in nearby side roads such as Anglesea Terrace.

Please note that parking in Alexandra Road is designated for residents only during certain times.

The Assessment Centre is located on the lower ground floor. There are three steps to the lower ground floor while a platform lift is available for wheelchair users.
