Our partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)
The Health Assessment Advisory Service arranges and carries out assessments for DWP. The purpose of the assessment is to understand how an illness or disability affects a person’s daily life. After the assessment, DWP makes the decision as to whether the individual will receive any benefits. The Health Assessment Advisory Service is delivered on behalf of DWP by Ingeus.
Our experienced supply chain partners, Advo and PFAS, will also deliver assessments on behalf of Ingeus.
What we do
We are committed to living our values in everything we do. We follow structured processes provided by the Department for Work and Pensions to make sure our healthcare professionals provide expert, high quality services.
Our responsibilities include:
- Recruit, train and employ qualified and experienced healthcare professionals to carry out assessments.
- Review all medical evidence and information provided by the Department for Work (DWP) and Pensions and customer prior to the assessment.
- Request further medical evidence, where required, from doctors or other relevant sources to help carry out the assessment.
- Determine what type of assessment (paper based, face-to-face, telephone or video) is required based on the evidence provided.
- Arrange appointments with customers for assessments.
- Carry out independent assessments in line with processes issued by DWP.
- Complete a thorough and accurate assessment report for DWP.
- Implement robust data protection measures to safeguard customer information.
- Continuously evaluate our service to ensure we are meeting all quality requirements as set by DWP.
- Treat customers with care and respect at all times, in line with the Customer Charter.
DWP responsibilities include:
- Procure and manage Health Assessment Advisory Service suppliers.
- Define, develop and communicate a structured assessment process for suppliers to follow.
- Receive and process initial claims for Personal Independence Payment, Universal Credit and Employment Support Allowance, including receiving the ‘How your disability affects you’ form and supporting evidence.
- Refer cases to Ingeus for independent assessment, providing necessary documentation and information.
- Make informed decisions on a customer’s benefit entitlement using all information, supporting evidence and reports.
- Write to customers to explain the decision on their claim.
- Address inquiries and concerns from customers related to benefit decisions.
- Monitor and assess delivery and adherence of suppliers to established contractual requirements.
