About this centre
Our Canterbury WCA Assessment Centre is located on the ground floor of a shared building, Nutwood House. The assessment centre is located near Canterbury Law Courts and opposite the council offices. It is easily accessible by public transport, with a bus stop close by. Once you have arrived at Nutwood House, please follow signs for the Assessment Centre located around the building and car park.
Assessments carried out at this centre:
- Work Capability Assessments for people claiming Universal Credit (UC) and Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Other assessments for people claiming Specialist Benefits including Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (IIDB) or Veterans UK
Travelling by bus or coach
Buses from the Sturry Road Park and Ride call outside the council offices in Military Road (alight at the Civic Centre bus stop). The 649 service runs to the Law courts from St. George’s Lane in the city centre. Alternatively, a number of routes call at St. Thomas’ School in Military Road, a half a mile walk from the assessment centre.

Travelling by train
Canterbury East station and Canterbury West station are both approximately one mile from Nutwood House.

Travelling by car
From Faversham (A2) turn right onto the ring road and at the fourth roundabout take the exit signed Council Offices.
From Ashford (A28) turn right at the roundabout onto the ring road, go straight on and at the third roundabout follow the sign for Council Offices.
From Dover (A2 / A2050) turn right at the roundabout by the Odeon Cinema onto the ring road. At the next roundabout follow the sign for Council Offices.
From Margate (A28) head straight on at the ASDA roundabout, turn left at the next roundabout (using the slip road) and left again at the next roundabout towards Council Offices.
The assessment centre is located opposite the Council Offices.

Car parking
There is a free car park outside the assessment centre, accessed from Chaucer Road. Please press the intercom button at the car park barrier to gain entry. Accessible parking bays in front of the assessment centre.
When you arrive
Remember to bring your identification and appointment letter with you.
On arrival, the external door will open automatically. Once inside, press the intercom button in the lobby to speak to a member of staff and gain entry to the waiting room. Please let reception know you have arrived and take a seat. The health professional may still be in a consultation but will see you as soon as they are available.

This is a ground floor assessment facility. There is an accessible toilet in the waiting area.
