About this centre

Our Chatham Assessment Centre is located on Batchelor Street. If approaching from The Brook, look for Halfords and take the next right into Batchelor Street. If approaching from the main High St shopping area, look for Barclay’s Bank and turn into Batchelor’s St – the Assessment Centre is located next to the ‘Jolly Caulkers’ public house.

Assessments carried out at this centre:

  • Work Capability Assessments for people claiming Universal Credit (UC) and Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Other assessments for people claiming Specialist Benefits including Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (IIDB) or Veterans UK

Travelling by bus or coach

Most buses into Chatham call at the Chatham Waterfront bus station on Globe Lane, adjacent to Military Road. From the bus station, walk along The Brook past Halfords and take the next right into Batchelor Street; the Assessment Centre is located next to the Jolly Caulkers public house.

Travelling by train

Chatham station, served by Southeastern services, is a 0.5 mile walk from the Assessment Centre. Turn right out of the station onto Railway Street, continue under the road bridge and cross over Best Street at the traffic lights and continue onto the pedestrianised street. Take the next right onto the High Street and continue along before taking a left at the clock tower onto Batchelor Street: The Assessment centre will be on your left-hand side.

Travelling by car

We are located in Chatham on the corner of Solomon’s Road and Batchelor Street.

From Gillingham: Head north on Duncan Road/A231 towards Balmoral Road. Continue on the A231. Slight left onto Jeffery Street/A231. Turn right onto Batchelor Street. The centre is on the right, next to the Jolly Caulker’s pub.

Car parking

There are no public parking facilities at the Assessment Centre. However, there are several car parks in Chatham town centre, the nearest of which are the Queen Street, Slicketts Hill, The Brook multi-storey, Rhode Street and James Street carparks. All have similar tariffs and blue badge holders may park without charge. Solomons Road car park, at the far end of Solomons Road, is exclusively for use by blue badge holders (note that there is also a private car park in Solomons Road where there are no concessions for blue badge holders).

When you arrive

Please remember to bring your identification and appointment letter with you.

There are three assessment rooms on the ground floor and four assessment rooms on the first floor. Press the intercom button on arrival to speak to a member of staff. When the door is released remotely, push it to gain entry to the building.
