About this centre

Our Croydon Assessment Centre is located on Cherry Orchard Road near the centre of Croydon. The assessment centre is accessible by bus and there is car parking close by. The main entrance will be clearly signposted with an Assessment Centre sign.

Assessments carried out at this centre:

  • Work Capability Assessments for people claiming Universal Credit (UC) and Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Other assessments for people claiming Specialist Benefits including Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (IIDB) or Veterans UK

Travelling by bus, coach or tram

Bus routes 197, 312, 367 and 410 stop in Cherry Orchard Road outside the assessment centre: alight at the Addiscombe Road or East Croydon station stops. Alternatively, many other services call at East Croydon station in George Street.

East Croydon station is also served by London Trams services from Wimbledon, New Addington, Beckenham Junction, Elmers End and West Croydon.

Travelling by train

East Croydon station is about 5 minutes’ walk from Stephenson House – turn left on leaving the station. East Croydon station is served by Southern services from London Bridge and London Victoria to the south coast, as well as by Thameslink services from Brighton and London.

Travelling by car

Stephenson House is located near the octagonal ‘No.1 Croydon’ tower. Pay and display metered parking is usually available on Cherry Orchard Road (including two accessible bays for use by blue badge holders) and in nearby side roads such as Cedar Road, where the tariff is cheaper.

Car parking

The nearest secure car park is the Ruskin Square Car Park on Dingwall Road; use the pedestrian footpath (Caithness Walk) to cross the railway line to Billinton Hill and Cherry Orchard Road.

When you arrive

Remember to bring your identification and appointment letter with you.

Please note: the Assessment Centre is located on the first floor. The Centre can be accessed by lift but if an emergency evacuation of the building is required, such as a fire alarm, the lift cannot be used. There are 42 steps to the ground floor.

If you think that you would have difficulty going down the stairs unaided in the event of an emergency, please ring the number on the accompanying letter at least two days before your appointment date so we can make alternative arrangements for you.
