About this centre
Our Romford Assessment Centre is located on the second floor of East Blackburn House in the centre of Romford. The assessment centre is accessible by bus and train. There is no visitor car park available – please see car parking section for further details. The main entrance will be clearly signposted with an Assessment Centre sign.
Assessments carried out at this centre:
- Work Capability Assessments for people claiming Universal Credit (UC) and Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Other assessments for people claiming Specialist Benefits including Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (IIDB) or Veterans UK
Travelling by bus or coach
There are no bus stops in Eastern Road. However, bus routes 5, 66, 86, 103, 128, 165, 174, 175, 193, 247, 248, 252, 294, 296, 347, 365, 370, 375, 496, 498 and 499 stop nearby in the centre of Romford – alight at the Romford station or Western Road bus stops.

Travelling by train
Romford station is 0.1 mile from Blackburn House: leave the station via the main (east) exit and use the pedestrian crossing to reach Eastern Road. Romford station is served by Elizabeth line services between London Liverpool Street, Stratford and Shenfield. Some Greater Anglia services also call at Romford. London Overground operates a shuttle service to / from Upminster, connecting with London Underground District line and c2c services.

Travelling by car
Blackburn House is situated in the centre of Romford and there is no visitor parking on site. Although there are two parking bays for use by blue badge holders in Eastern Road, most of the on-street parking is reserved for taxis. However, there are several secure car parks nearby including the Liberty multi-storey car park in Western Road, which has spaces for blue badge holders. Note that the Grimshaw Way car park is open on Saturdays only while the Slaney Road car park is not for public use.

Please note that this assessment facility is located on the second floor. The centre can be accessed by lift but if an emergency evacuation of the building is required, such as a fire alarm, the lift cannot be used. There are 36 steps to the ground floor.
If you think that you would have difficulty going down the stairs unaided in the event of an emergency, please ring the number on the accompanying letter at least two days before your appointment date so that we can make alternative arrangements for you.
