About this centre
Our Southend Assessment Centre is located within the Therapy Life Centre in Southend. The assessment centre is accessible by bus and there is car parking at the rear of the centre – please see the car parking section for further details. The main entrance will be clearly signposted with an Assessment Centre sign.
Assessments carried out at this centre:
- Work Capability Assessments for people claiming Universal Credit (UC) and Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Other assessments for people claiming Specialist Benefits including Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (IIDB) or Veterans UK
Travelling by bus or coach
Bus routes 7, 8, 20, 21, 21A, 21B, 25, 29 and 407 stop closest to the assessment centre, alight at the Fairfax Drive stop.
Buses 2, 6, 9, 15, 15A, 15B, 15C, 16, 201 and X30 all run from the bus station in Chichester Road (near Southend Central station) and call at Priory Park in Victoria Avenue.
From Priory Park, walk up Fairfax Drive and take the first right into Prittlewell Chase.

Travelling by train
The nearest station is Prittlewell (10 minutes’ walk) served by Abellio Greater Anglia trains between London Liverpool Street and Southend Victoria.
Southend Central station, on the C2C line from London Fenchurch Street, is approximately 20-25 minutes’ walk away.

Travelling by car
The assessment centre is located next to BMI Southend Private Hospital, close to Southend United Football Club (Roots Hall).
The building is shared with Therapy Life Centre and has a car park at the rear.
From the A127, turn right into Hobleythick Lane at a set of traffic lights by The Toby Pub and Carvery. At the next set of lights turn left into Prittlewell Chase.
From the A13 (London Road), turn left at the Sainsbury’s roundabout then left again into Victoria Avenue (a dual carriageway) at the Victoria Circus roundabout.
